The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), in collaboration with the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), organized a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Recent Advancements in light wave technologies” from February 19th to February 23rd, 2024. The programme aimed to train users the latest Technologies and trends in Lightwave Systems and discover how optical simulation software enables users to perform simulation tasks such as modelling, performance analysis and perform R & D.
Eminent faculties from prestigious institutions such as the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), along with experts from leading industries, were invited to share their expertise and insights during the programme.
Sessions covered a wide range of topics including QUANTUM: The future Lightwave Communication, High-Capacity Fiber Optics, Microwave Photonic Systems: Challenges and Opportunities, Hands on Training: Optical Simulation Software, Soliton based sensor networks for IoT applications, Long distance Lightwave systems- the era of Optical Amplifiers, Beyond the Beam- A journey into Laser Applications, Optical Wireless Communication and Research Opportunities in Lightwave Systems. Additionally, a special session on “Managing Stress in Academics and Research” was included to address the well-being of participants.
The FDP attracted a total of 40 participants, including faculty members from the hosting institution as well as around 22 external faculty members from other colleges. This diverse participant profile ensured a rich exchange of perspectives and experiences throughout the programme. The programme received overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants, who expressed appreciation for the valuable insights gained and the opportunity to interact with esteemed experts from academia and industry.
In conclusion, the DTE-sponsored Faculty Development Programme on Recent Advancements in light wave technologies was a resounding success, contributing significantly to the professional development of faculty members in the field of electronics and communication engineering.
