One Day Workshop on Introduction to Product Design

Date: 06/01/16  9am to 4pm

 In connection with the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Dept of Electronics and Communication Engineering, College of Engineering Trivandrum, the department organized a program on One day Workshop on Introduction to Product Design for pre-final year B.Tech students. The pre-final year students are to do a mini project as part of their curriculum. This program was conducted with the aim of motivating students to turn their mini projects into products useful to the society. The guidance and direction for the design phase was given by Mr. Harikrishnan Sasidharan, visiting faculty of College of Architecture, Trivandrum and by Dr. M R Baiju, Professor, Dept of Electronics and Communication, CET. The program was inaugurated by Dr. J David, Principal, CET. The one day program was conducted in two sessions and was held at CGPU Hall, CET.

 

The first session commenced at 9.30 after the inauguration ceremony. The session was handled by Mr. Harikrishnan Sasidharan. He completed his degree from Kerala University in 2006. He had his post graduate degree from Delft University Netherlands. He freelanced for a year in Netherlands for leading architects like DMA and MVRDV. Later he returned to India and is now a visiting faculty at College of Architecture Trivandrum. He talked about the significance of a good design and how it complements a product. He mentioned the architectural and the aesthetic aspects of a good product. The forenoon session was concluded by a talk by Mr. Umesh Kamath from UST Global Pvt Ltd, Trivandrum. His talk was on corporate side of product design.

 

The second session commenced at 1pm and was handled by Dr. M R Baiju, Professor, Dept of Electronics and Communication; CET. He highlighted how to model the front panel of various devices. Then the students were asked to design a front panel of a voltage supply which has an output of 5V and 15V. The students split into groups of 3 or 4 and were given the necessary materials like sheets, cardboard, colour papers, etc to complete the task. The design of each team were evaluated and suggestions given for further improvement by Dr.Shajahan E S, Mr.Prajith C A, Mr.Lalu V, Mrs.Jeena R S. M3 M.Tech. students helped in the smooth running of the entire event.

The program concluded at 4.00 pm and it was attended by S6 ECE and S6 AEI students.
